The actor is reportedly in talks with Nokia, Sahara, Anil Ambani Group and others for selling the team. Khan had bought this IPL franchise last year for Rs 300 crore.The report suggests that SRK has been trying to sell the team for some time now, but the buyers demanded management control.

Sahara India has reportedly expressed interest in buying the team. The report adds that SRK could actually sell KKR for double the amount he bought it for, provided the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) does not increase the number of teams for next year.

Shahrukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders may be struggling at the bottom in the second season of Indian Premier League, but in terms of brand value it is the richest team of the twenty-twenty cricket tournament, whose collective valuation has been now pegged at $2 billion.

At the same time, Rajasthan Royals, partly owned by another Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, has emerged as the best team in terms of return on investment, although it is ranked third in terms of brand value.

The valuation exercise of the entire IPL franchise, along with the individual teams, have been conducted by UK-based international brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance Plc.

“The entire enterprise is valued at USD 2.01 billion,” Brand Finance said, adding, its methodology took into account various revenue lines such as broadcasting, IPL sponsorship, team sponsorship, merchandising and gate receipts as well as the effect of performance, the catchment population of the city, the capacity of the stadium and the presence of iconic players.

Mumbai Indians – $41.6 million

Rajasthan Royals – $39.5 million

Chennai Super Kings – $39.4 million

Despite propping up the bottom of this year’s edition of the IPL taking place in South Africa, the Kolkata Knight Riders are the most valuable franchise brand at $42.1 million. Celebrity co-owner Shah Rukh Khan’s hard-selling of the KKR brand has counteracted the team’s poor on-field performance.

At the same time, Rajasthan Royal’s brand value of $39.5 million at 59 percent of its franchise fee of $67 million, makes the reigning champions IPL’s most profitable investment.

When determining our brand ratings, Brand Finance said: we have paid particular attention the ability of the franchises to generate advertising revenue, as well as the potential size of their support base. Rajasthan and Kolkata scored highly in these respective measures.

KKR has been the ultimate Winner being a Loser in the tournament…….

For IPL franchise owner SRK & his team it’s a disaster. His IPL Business could be in doldrums

When you start losing every match that you were close to winning, then you are in deep, deep trouble. Which is why Kolkata Knight Riders, after having played 50 per cent of their matches in IPL 2009, are languishing at the bottom.

Several reasons are being offered for the inept display:

A lot of good KKR players are missing in action. Agreed that senior pros like Ganguly, Ishant and Kartik need to do much more. But it is also true that lesser lights like Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Ashok Dinda, Wriddhiman Saha have not been handled properly. They seem to be filling in the blanks, rather than being given a definite role.

And coach John handling of fringe players has been below par. Players like Anureet Singh, A Ghosh, Yashpal Singh have walked in and out of the team like it were a thoroughfare. And there’s simply no point in discussing the plight of Bangar and Chopra.

Buchanan doesn’t seem to have a Plan B. Or is it that he has too many plans – from Plan A to Plan Z – and doesn’t know which one to
choose. Solve this mystery for me………

Surely, the team did not need a ‘pro’ wicket-keeper batsman taking up the precious fourth foreigner slot in the team when they already have a competent desi keeper (Saha, also a World Cup probable) and a phoren player (captain McCullum) capable of playing the same role.

Now, the real question is:  Can KKR haul itself out of the abyss? If that is translated as whether it can enter the semi-final, the answer is a flat no. There’s no way captain McCullum and his boys, including Fake IPl player, can claw their way to the top four. With or without Buchanan.

But I guess that’s not what the KKR fan is expecting anymore. What the average fan really wants is a performance with heart. Even in the first edition, KKR never looked like a champion team. But there was an electricity, a frisson that every fan felt running through his spine watching most of the games.

Remember McCullum’s 13 sixes in his 73 ball 158 against Royal Challengers, simply the best knock played in IPL today.

Remember Ganguly’s 3-0-7-1 spell where he clean bowled Rahul Dravid, every dot ball cheered like a six by a passionate Eden Gardens crowd on a muggy night. Those 18 deliveries, along with a modest 20, got him the man of the match award in that rain-curtailed game.

Remember Shoiab Akhtar, playing his first game, bowling an unplayable 3-0-11-4 spell where he toyed with Gambhir, Sehwag, de Villiers and Manoj Tiwary. Nobody has bowled a more fiery and memorable spell in IPL before or since. That night KKR defended 133 with ease.

Each of these performances came straight from the heart. That’s what made KKR stand out from the rest. Watching them play wasn’t just witnessing a game. It was also witnessing human drama. And that’s what everybody is waiting for.

And that’s what SRK, Buchanan, & McCullum and company have also failed to produce.

And this is what I think, the whole IPL has definitely degraded SRK’s image.

This whole episode has dented the SRK’s brand image & the way he himself conducts as a Businessman. People were thinking that the person who can create such an aura on screen can also do wonders in this format of game with ease, but that was not the case…..

In terms of Films, I am not quite sure on how it will go but definitely the prospects are not looking good for SRK at least for short term………

SRK’s charisma, tact and PR skills are no more required. He has already exploited them to the fullest. The interesting thing is how Brand SRK will fare from here or is it all over for him.

And now it seems, trouble is brewing at the top within the team after skipper Brendon McCullum said he would step down as captain if the team did not make it to the semi-finals.

And to add to it, SRK is believed to be coming back to India to cast his vote in the Lok Sabha elections. SRK told an entertainment channel: “I won’t return to South Africa unless the team starts winning. I feel really sad when I see my team losing. They are trying very hard, so it’s even tougher to digest the losses. I will only return to South Africa and cheer for my team when they start winning.”

Not only he is packing but also the desi cheerleaders who were selected through the much hyped dance reality show on NDTV Imagine called Knights and Angels. What was extremely disheartening for these girls was that they never got a single opportunity to showcase what they were selected for. Sources reveal, “The six girls – Sanna, Samyukta, Ritika, Ananya, Sunanda and Rupali had flown to IPL venue country, South Africa on April 15th but then were told that they won’t be given a chance to perform as the people there wanted only South African cheerleaders on the field. They haven’t been given any money as yet as well and have been made to sign a one year contract which states that financial help would be considered only after Shah Rukh is back to Mumbai from South Africa on April 30th.

May be this could be your last visit SRK & you will be never be able to cheer for this season of IPL …..oops, am I predicting the future….???

It shows how frustrated he is & how important is IPL business for him.

Those people will be fools who believe that SRK can replicate or give performance like “chak de India”….

I hope others will agree with me on this note !!!

The two players who accepted the decision and would board a home-bound flight today.

Chopra played in Kolkata’s first two matches of IPL schedule, but got the opportunity to bat only once while Bangar played the match against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday but made just two and could not leave any impression.

Its all about trimming & cost cutting, that’s why I always maintain IPL is just not cricket it is serious business & non performers will be chucked out….

Already KKR is in big mess with The Fake IPL Player & I hope there is no correlation between this two things…

Let’s see how things get unfold for KKR & co in the remaining matches……

It could be written by someone who’s in the thick of things. It could also be someone from the management who’s not happy with the decisions taken right now. It’s definitely an uncomfortable situation. But I guess a player would not jeopardise his career by writing such blogs. The fact that he mentions his brother could also be a distraction – the brother could be an uncle or friend in India. From the lingo, it could be someone who’s been in England as the names used to refer to the players are British. It can also be a player-turned-commentator……

I have just penned down for those who wants to understand why IPL franchise owners have invested so much……

Any league has three main sources of income namely media receipts, gate receipts and sponsorships. Under IPL schedule, these three streams are categorized under central and local. The Central revenues are through IPL league.

A. Central
1. Media rights – To be shared equally amongst franchises after removing IPL’s share of 20 %.

2. Sponsorship rights (IPL sponsors) – 60% of the amount collected to be distributed equally amongst the franchises.

B. Local
1. Sponsorships – Team sponsorship revenues are the most variable and are dependent on the marketing skills. For example, teams like India Cements have marketed their teams based on the format of IPL – where sponsorships are sold on categories. ICL’s main sponsor is Aircel. In contrast, the other team of Deccan Chronicle will have team partners. These partners will have ownership of the team. For example, in case of an entertainment partner, anything to do with entertainment from cheerleaders to fours and sixes will be seen by that party.

2. Gate receipts – Are anticipated to be a major source of revenues. 20% of tickets are to be allocated to IPL

So much of money in IPL, I am sure the way they are going, they will mint money like anything……….!!!
